ADDING GREEN TO OUR COLOURS!

At PTC, we are prepared for counterbalancing the environmental effects of our actions, and being prepared comes from being proactive. If we are not environmentally conscious, the negative impacts of climate change will only increase causing future generations to live in a world that is far less green than the one we live in today. PTC is growing in terms of its social responsibility efforts, and we have already engaged in various initiatives and continue to do so.

What We Do

  • Reduce power consumption by powering down all computers, monitors and peripherals, and turning off all office lights at the end ofeach work day. We also turn off all lights in our interview rooms when rooms are not in use.
  • Use FSC-certified paper (forest friendly), which contains fibres from well-managed forests and post-consumer recycled content.Participate in Earth Hour - a global initiative led by World Wildlife Fund - and other local and national events such as the City of  Vaughan's 20-Minute Makeover to help clean up the community.
  • Participate in the CURE Foundation's National Denim Day each year to help raise breast cancer awareness and funds for a cure
  • Plant trees through LEAF - a toronto-based organization dedicated to replenishing urban forests.
  • Invested in "Energy Star" compliant monitors, reducing monitor power consumption by 80%.
  • Reduce our carbon footprint and environmental impacts by means of investing with Zerofootprint and purchasing carbon credits to support B.C.'s Degraded Land Restoration Project.
  • Eliminated paper plates, plastic utensils and plastic/styrofoam cups in our lunchroom and have moved to reusable dinnerware, silverware, glasses and mugs.
  • Invested in water coolers for our lunchroom to encourage employees not to bring in plastic water bottles.
Encourage employees to brown bag their lunches or use reusable bags.
  • Invested in PTC branded eco-friendly bags that we give to our candidates when they come in for an interview as well as to our employees. This helps in eliminating the use of plastic bags and using environmentally friendly reusable bags.

What You Can Do

  • Reduce paper usage or use forest-friendly and recycled paper. That's an easy one!
  • Be sure to recycle using proper bins.
  • Power down your computers. No need to keep them on!
  • Save energy by unplugging your appliances and gadgets.
  • Bike, carpool or take public transit to work if possible.
  • Use heating and air conditioning sparingly.
  • Consider green lighting options.

Did You Know?

  • A hot water faucet that leaks one drop per second can add up to 165 gallons a month. That's more than one person uses in two weeks.
  • An energy-smart clothes washer can save more water in one year than one person drinks in an entire lifetime!
  • When you turn on an incandescent light bulb, only 10 percent of the electricity used is turned into light. The other 90 percent is wasted as heat.
  • A compact fluorescent light bulb uses 75 percent less energy than a regular bulb – and it can last up to four years.
  • A crack as small as 1/16th of an inch around a window frame can let in as much cold air as leaving the window open three inches.
Some new refrigerators are so energy-smart they use less electricity than a light bulb!
  • An automatic dishwasher uses less hot water than doing dishes by hand - an average of six gallons less, or more than 2,000 gallons per year.
  • Every time you open the refrigerator door, up to 30 percent of the cold air can escape.
  • Every year, more than $13 billion worth of energy leaks from houses through small holes and cracks. That’s more than $150 per family!

TOGETHER, WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
